Chapter 135: The 2nd-Order Transcendent Assassin
by neuLin Dongyun watched in slight astonishment as the door shattered, but he didn’t pay much attention. The force was insufficient; he estimated it would fall to the ground after flying a mere three meters. What was strange was the fact that this was the heavily guarded Municipal Government Compound. How could someone have infiltrated it?
Confident in his own considerable strength, Lin Dongyun wasn’t concerned about any potential attack. He simply held his saber hilt, shielding his sister behind him. His line of sight was suddenly obstructed. Focusing, he saw Xiaobai blocking his view.
With a touch of helplessness, he nudged Xiaobai aside, clearing his vision. Perhaps Xiaobai truly was highly intelligent; with just a nudge, Xiaobai shifted slightly, maintaining optimal protection while keeping Lin Dongyun’s view unobstructed.
Lin Dongyun’s gaze settled on the young, handsome man slowly ascending the stairs. He was clad in an ancient warrior robe and, oddly, straw sandals. Nothing else fazed Lin Dongyun, but the sandals made his eye twitch. He couldn’t help but mutter, "Show-off."
As his gaze locked onto the man, a sharp pain pierced his brow, and he felt his body slump. Turning, he saw his sister unconscious, her eyes rolled back.
"Master! Your sister is only unconscious; nothing serious!" Xiaobai suddenly appeared, eager to demonstrate its worth.
Lin Dongyun retorted, "I could tell."
He then turned back to the young man, "That was a mental attack?"
The young man stared intently back at Lin Dongyun. "You actually withstood my mental attack? 2nd-Order Transcendent?"
While Lin Dongyun remained composed, Xiaobai shouted, "Master! Master! Be careful! This person is a 2nd-Order Transcendent!"
"2nd-Order Transcendent?!" Lin Dongyun’s expression turned serious.
First, using skillful force, he carefully laid his unconscious sister on the ground behind him. He then drew his saber, maintaining a vigilant stance against the young man, a surge of intense fighting spirit filling his heart.
Lin Dongyun wouldn’t retreat simply because the opponent was a 2nd-Order Transcendent. Whether he could win or not, he had to try!
What did being a 2nd-Order Transcendent matter? With a saber in hand, there was no fear!
The man shook his head. "No, the intel indicated you were only an Early 1st-Order Transcendent; it’s impossible for you to be a 2nd-Order. The fact you resisted my mental assault shows you possess an unwavering will. I relish the opportunity to face such an individual."
"You should feel honored to die by my blade; I only intended to render you an idiot," said the young man, drawing his own saber.
As he moved to attack, Lin Dongyun prepared to block the first strike, but suddenly, a tall figure appeared before him. Then Xiaobai said, "Blade drawn against the Master, kill!"
With a deafening boom, the floor shattered, forcing Lin Dongyun to shield his face from the flying debris. When he recovered, he saw Xiaobai delivering a straight punch to the young man’s chest.
"Bio-android? Robot?" the man scoffed, raising his blade to cut down the guard.
However, his expression changed instantly. The slow, deliberate swing of his blade was abruptly halted, the blade raised defensively before his chest.
Xiaobai’s fist impacted precisely on the blade. The sharp blade was unable to penetrate Xiaobai’s surprisingly tough fist. The man’s blade snapped cleanly, and Xiaobai’s fist smashed into his chest without obstruction. Xiaobai’s fist penetrated at least three centimeters into the man’s chest. The man’s face flushed; a mouthful of blood sprayed out, and his body flew backward like a cannonball, smashing through the conference room wall.
Without hesitation, Xiaobai stomped the ground, causing another explosion of debris as he rapidly pursued the attacker through the broken wall.
The 2nd-Order Transcendent, despite being struck hard enough to cough up blood, reacted swiftly, launching himself from the rubble. He sped toward the exit like a thunderbolt. Xiaobai, slightly behind, landed in the rubble; a thunderous explosion scattered the debris, and even the wall collapsed. Then, Xiaobai levitated, pursuing the fleeing figure like a bomber.
All of this transpired in a flash. When the soldiers, though severely wounded, regained consciousness, all that remained was a completely ruined wall, dust, and debris filling the air.
The conference room floor was a disaster—two large craters and shattered floor tiles everywhere. Lin Dongyun, still holding his saber, was utterly stunned, speechless for a time.
After a moment, he asked the equally dumbfounded Xiaobai, "Xiaobai, you said that man was a 2nd-Order Transcendent, right?"
"Yes," Xiaobai nodded dumbly.
"Then why did one punch from you send him flying?" Lin Dongyun asked again.
"I don’t know," Xiaobai shook its head this time.
Lin Dongyun sheathed his saber, turned to help his sister to a still-intact sofa, checking her over; confirming she was only unconscious and without other injuries, he finally breathed a sigh of relief. "I owe Lord Albert a huge favor this time."
Shaking his head, he then turned to his twelve injured soldiers. He examined their wounds—a deep slash to the chest, revealing their internal organs. But in this day and age, medical technology had advanced to the point that such an injury was negligible, similar to a small cut on a finger. Lin Dongyun was thus reassured.
Meanwhile, guards from the Municipal Government Compound, alerted to the incident, rushed to the scene, and Ouyang Bin arrived, sweating profusely. The place immediately became bustling with activity.
Just as Ouyang Bin reached Lin Dongyun, still catching his breath and about to ask questions, a loud boom resonated, and a figure landed before Lin Dongyun. The guards reacted instantly, drawing their weapons.
Recognizing the figure, Ouyang Bin shouted, "Lower your weapons! That is the Patrol Commander’s bodyguard!"
The figure that descended from the sky was indeed Xiaobai. Now, on one knee, it said, "Apologies, Master. The assassin escaped."
"Why?" Lin Dongyun was astonished. He could send a 2nd-Order Transcendent flying with a single punch and even pursue him in flight; and still he failed to apprehend him?
"Xiaobai cannot exceed a five-hundred-meter radius from the Master. The assassin’s escape velocity was too great; he immediately left the five-hundred-meter radius," Xiaobai explained factually.
"Uh…" Lin Dongyun didn’t know what to say. His incredibly powerful bodyguard had this limitation? Considering Xiaobai’s nature as a bodyguard, perhaps it was only natural that it couldn’t leave a five-hundred-meter radius.
So Lin Dongyun simply waved his hand. "Transfer the video of the assassin to Mayor Ouyang. Mayor Ouyang, issue a wanted poster."
"Yes!" Ouyang Bin immediately complied. Then Xiaobai stood, extending its arm towards him. When Ouyang Bin looked at him bewildered, Xiaobai stated, "Mayor Ouyang, please touch me with your wristwatch. I will transmit the image."
"Oh, oh." Ouyang Bin quickly touched Xiaobai’s wrist with his wristwatch. Immediately, the information was displayed, and he quickly forwarded it to his brother, Ouyang Zheng, instructing him to issue the wanted notice immediately.
